EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University women’s basketball team dug itself another hole on Friday and they were never able to climb out, falling to Oregon Tech, 59-43.
OIT held a 17-12 lead after the first quarter and the Beacons were out-scored 15-3 in the second as they shot just 1-for-12 from the field. Trailing 32-15 at halftime, the Beacons put together a nice rally in the third quarter to cut the margin to 11 but the damage had already been done.
Oregon Tech shot 40% in the game while the Beacons shot just 33%. Combined the teams went 2-for-33 from three-point distance. The Owls held a 46-30 rebounding advantage and hauled in 18 offensive boards, eight of which came from Bailey Nelson in route to a double-double with 11 points and 13 boards.
The Owls (19-8, 13-4 CCC) were led in scoring by Nohea Waiwaiole with 12 points, adding seven rebounds, seven assists, two blocks and a steal. Megan Morris and Amanda Constant posted ten points each in the win.
NCU (9-16, 5-9 CCC) were led by Hannah Eddens who posted a game-high 13 points and a team-leading seven boards. Morgan McKinney added 11 points and four steals while Shanay Dotson posted six points, six rebounds and a game-high five steals.
Northwest Christian will be back in action on Saturday night, taking on Southern Oregon University at 5:30 p.m. OIT travels to take on No. 19 Corban, also with a 5:30 pm tip.
