CALDWELL, Idaho – Lewis-Clark State pitching limited the College of Idaho to just 10 combined hits in today's doubleheader, as the Warriors took the middle games of a 4-game series at Wolfe Field.

The Warriors (7-8-1, 3-4) rode 22 combined strikeouts by their pitching staff in 4-1 and 9-1 victories.

Gerald Hein tossed eight innings of 4-hit ball, striking out eight to earn the Game 1 win, while Lalo Porras fanned eight in five innings in Game 2 to compete the doubleheader sweep.

An RBI single by Darren Trainor and a run-scoring double by Zach Needham staked L-C to a 2-0 lead in the fourth, but the Yotes answered, getting a 2-out RBI single from Jake Bowman to cut the lead in half.

C of I (10-16, 4-3) had the tying run on base in the seventh and eighth innings – but could not score – with the Warriors tacking on a pair of insurance runs in the ninth.

Richard Walker was the tough-luck loser, striking out seven without a walk in a complete-game effort, with Chase Labbe going 2-for-3 for the Yotes.

LCSC scored the first nine runs of Game 2 – getting a 2-run Jacob Gribben single to cap a 3-run first inning, adding two runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings. The Yotes got their lone run on a Labbe RBI single in the eighth.

Connor Root took the loss for the Coyotes, giving up eight hits in five innings, while reliever Silas Shumate tossed a season-high four innings of relief, striking out three.

The two teams close the series tomorrow with a noon first-pitch.
