Under Armour Team of the Week Announced
LA GRANDE, Ore. –The College of Idaho and the Oregon Tech men’s basketball teams share the honor of being named the “Under Armour Team of the Week” for March 4-10 the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.
CI and OIT, competing in the NAIA D II National Championship, have advanced to the Fab Four and will meet Monday night in the first of two semifinal games to see which CCC team will represent the league for a shot at a National Title.
Both squads entered the tournament as No. 2 seeds in their respective brackets. The Yotes have used a steady dose of defense and gutsy end of game performances to reach the semifinals. CI upended Voorhees (S.C.) in the first round 87-74 before winning a bruising game against Cornerstone (Mich.) in overtime 86-82. Head Coach Colby Blaine’s squad had Morningside (Iowa) seeing purple as the Yotes were victorious in a tightly contested game 62-59 in the quarterfinals.
The Hustlin’ Owls are as hot as any team in the tournament and defeated Antelope Valley (Calif.) 75-65 and Indiana University Kokomo 84-72 in the first two rounds. Awaiting the Klamath Falls team in the quarterfinals was none other than the No. 1 overall seed and defending champion Indiana Wesleyan. Head Coach Justin Parnell and the Hustlin’ Owls put together possibly their best performance of the year in the 107-93 win propelling them into the semifinals.
No. 5 College of Idaho (31-5, 14-4 CCC) and No. 8 Oregon Tech (27-7, 15-3 CCC) face each other for the third time of the season Monday night at 6 p.m. CST for a chance to advance to the title game. During CCC play the teams split their contests with the home team winning by three-points. OIT was the regular season champion while CI won the post season tournament.
