The following CCC student-athletes have been recognized as Red Lion Players of the Week for their performances during the period March 11-17.

The following CCC student-athletes have been recognized as Red Lion Players of the Week for their performances during the period March 11-17.

 

Softball – Player

Marissa Maddox of College of Idaho has been selected as the Red Lion softball Player of the Week.

 

Maddox served as a key bat in the heart of the Yotes’ order throughout the week, driving in 12 runs in seven games. The senior from Alamo, Calif. went 8-for-19 on the week, scoring seven runs and blasting a trio of round-trippers. In the squad’s 9-2 win against Corban, she tied a school record with two homers, six RBIs and four runs scored.

Softball – Pitcher

Gabby Sandoval of Southern Oregon has been named the Red Lion softball Pitcher of the Week.

 

Sandoval finds herself as the CCC softball Pitcher of the Week yet again, this time for her three-win weekend against the No. 9-ranked Oregon Tech Owls. In her two starts over the weekend, she tossed two complete games, allowing just five hits and no earned runs between the two contests. She picked up a third win in relief, improving to 14-1 overall and 8-0 in conference play.

Baseball – Player

British Columbia’s Jordan Dray has been selected as the Red Lion baseball Player of the Week.

 

It was a tremendous series for Dray in the Thunderbirds’ weekend sweep of Oregon Tech, as the sophomore outfielder went an outstanding 7-for-15 at the plate with three doubles and a pair of home runs. The sophomore from White Rock, B.C. drove in at least one run in each of the four games, totaling seven RBIs on the weekend.

Baseball – Pitcher

Gerald Hein of Lewis-Clark State has been chosen as the Red Lion baseball Pitcher of the Week.

 

Hein tossed a gem against Vanguard over the weekend, earning a victory in the Warriors’ four-game sweep of the No. 15-ranked Lions. The junior from Kennewick, Wash. went seven innings in the triumph, allowing just three hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out nine. The win marks his third of the season.

Men’s Outdoor Field

Zach Beltz of Southern Oregon has been chosen as the Red Lion men’s outdoor field Athlete of the Week.

 

Beltz won the long jump in a 49-person field at the Hornet Invite with the NAIA's top mark this season, an automatic qualifying mark of 24’ 8.5”. The senior from Elmira, Ore. then proceeded to hit the NAIA 'B' standard in the triple jump and landed at No. 2 on the NAIA performance list at 47’ 5.75”.

Women’s Outdoor Field

Brittany Coleman of Warner Pacific has been chosen as the Red Lion women’s outdoor field Athlete of the Week.

 

Coleman, a junior hailing from Sutherlin, Ore., won the triple jump at the Lewis & Clark Spring Break Open on Saturday, posting a new personal-best mark of 38’5”. Not only was the distance good for a first-place individual finish at the event, but it also met the NAIA ‘A’ standard and stands as the No. 1 mark in the NAIA so far.

Women’s Outdoor Track

Oregon Tech’s Danielle De Castro has been named the Red Lion women’s outdoor track Athlete of the Week.

 

De Castro turned in an exceptional performance in the 1500-meters at the Hornet Invite over the weekend, clocking a time of 4:27 to finish third in a field of 73. The junior from Seattle was the only NAIA finisher in the top-40, and her NAIA ‘A’ standard time is currently the best in the NAIA by nine seconds. In addition, De Castro’s performance eclipsed the Lady Owls’ school record by eight seconds.

Men’s Outdoor Track

Southern Oregon’s Ryan Alexander has been chosen as the Red Lion men’s outdoor track Athlete of the Week.

 

While competing at the Hornet Invite on Saturday, Alexander clocked in with the fastest time in the NAIA this season (3:54.37) in the 1500-meters. The time stands as a new personal-best for the senior out of Encino, Calif., good for clearance of the provisional-qualifying standard.

Women’s Golf

Corban’s Casey Jansen has been chosen as the Red Lion women’s Golfer of the Week.

 

The first CCC women’s Golfer of the Week award goes to Corban’s Casey Jansen, who absolutely dominated at the Willamette Invite on Saturday and Sunday. The senior from Waddell, Ariz. dominated individually, besting a field of 26 golfers by a 13-stroke advantage. Jansen shot a 75 (+3) and a 73 (+1) in the two rounds, lifting the Warriors to a team win by 19 strokes overall.
