MEDFORD, Ore. – No. 10 Oregon Tech won its 6
th and 7
th games in a row and improved to 14-6 on the season and 3-0 in Cascade Conference play with 10-1, and 9-1 wins Saturday over Northwest University (1-8, 0-3 CCC) at U.S. Cellular Fields.
"Today was a complete performance from our team in every aspect of the game," said Head Coach
Greg Stewart. "We got great pitching and catching, played great defense, and then continued to hit the ball well. This group of kids are really playing together and work every week to keep getting better."
Game 1 Oregon Tech 10 Northwest 1
Dre Sotelo (Pictured) hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first to give the Owls a 1-0 lead. That score would hold until the bottom of the 4
th when the Owls scored a run to go up 2-0 off a leadoff double by Ali Graham.
The Eagles made it a 2-1 game with a run in top of the 5
th on a Jessica Nunes RBI double.
Tech then broke the game wide open with 5-runs in the bottom of the 5
th highlighted by back-to-back RBI doubles by Graham and Cierra Barkis to give OIT the 7-1 lead.
The game was then called via the mercy rule in the bottom of the 6
th when Kiana Brown hit her first career walk-off homer, a three-run shot to deep left giving the Owls the 10-1 win.
Graham pitched all 6-innings, giving up just three-hits with 8-strikeouts to improve to 5-3 on the year.
Graham also stayed hot at the plate with 2-hits, while Brown added 2-hits and 4-RBI, and Barkis went 2 for 3 with 2-RBI in leading the Owls.
Game 2 Oregon Tech 9 Northwest 1
The Owls scored early and often and Sarah Abramson was almost untouchable in the circle with a season high 11-strikouts, improving to 5-3 as the Owls cruised to the 9-1 mercy rule shortened game.
Tech scored 4-runs in the first inning on RBI hits by McKenna Armantrout, Logan Nunes, and Baylee Wyscaver.
The Owls added one-run in the second inning on four-walks to go up 5-0.
The Hooter added three more runs in the 3
rd on back-to-back RBI doubles by Graham and Sotelo to increase the lead to 8-0.
Northwest scored an unearned run in the 5
th on an RBI single by Sammi Caron.
A Jacey Conklin RBI single ended the game in the 6
th as Armantrout scored after a leadoff double.
Nunes led OIT with three-hits with Graham, Armantrout, and Conklin adding 2-hits apiece.
Next weekend's four-game series originally scheduled for Great Falls, Montana has been moved to Klamath Falls, on Saturday, and Sunday March 9th and 10th with the doubleheaders starting at 12:00 pm each day at the new John and Lois Stilwell Stadium.
