LA GRANDE, Ore. – After Day 1 of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Multi Events Championships, Presented by U.S. Bank, Paige Dodd of Eastern Oregon leads the women’s heptathlon with 2,994 points while Corban’s Michael Schmidt leads the men’s decathlon with 3,514 points, which took place on Thursday at the EOU Track.
 
Women’s Heptathlon 
Dodd took first in her best event, the women’s high jump, posting an automatic qualifying mark of 1.67 meters, a personal best. She also placed second in the shot put with another personal best of 10.85 meters while also hitting a PR in the 100-meter hurdles of 14.99 seconds to take fourth.
 
The 2017 CCC Heptathlon Champion, Dodd currently sits in first place with 2,994 points, ahead of reigning champion Loghan Sprauer of Southern Oregon, who has 2,919 points.
 
Sprauer was the winner of the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.65 seconds, while placing second in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.86 seconds. Behind her is Corban’s Valerie Schmidt, who has 2,819 points. Friday will feature the long jump, javelin throw and 800-meters to wrap up the women’s heptathlon.
 
Men’s Decathlon
Schmidt leads the decathlon through five events, pacing the 10-man field with 3,514 points. Schmidt won the 400-meter dash to conclude the day with a mark of 50.09 seconds. He also has second place finishes in the 100-meter dash and high jump, along with finishing third in the long jump and shot put.
 
His teammate, Reagan Shira, is in second place with 3,466 points. Shira was the winner of both the long jump and shot put. The College of Idaho’s Kendrik Caldwell is in third with 3,381 points.
 
The men will finish the decathlon with the 100-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin throw and 1,500 meters.
 
Events on Friday begin at 10 a.m. with the men’s 100-meter hurdles, followed by the women’s long jump at 10:15 a.m.
