VANCOUVER – The UBC Thunderbirds sit in sixth after three rounds at the NAIA Men's Golf National Championship in Mesa, Ariz. The tournament is being contested on the par-71, 6,925-yard Las Sendas Golf Club layout.
The Thunderbirds have a total score of 43-over-par 895 (305-290-300), 25 strokes behind Texas Wesleyan. UBC began the day in fourth place. On Thursday, the team posted a round of 16-over 300.
Senior Zahidali Nathu (Richmond, B.C.) and junior Logan Carver (Calgary) are leading the way for the Blue and Gold. Both are tied for 21st place at 7-over 220.
Nathu shot an even-par 71 on Thursday after rounds of 76 and 73 on the first two days. He had a pair of birdies in Round 3, both on par-5 holes (Nos. 6 and 18).
Carver carded a round of 1-over 72, with birdies on the par-3 fifth and seventh holes, as well as one on the par-5 18th. He shot 73 and 75 on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.
Senior Andrew Harrison of Camrose, Alta., is tied for 27th at 9-over 222 (76-68-78). Harrison had birdies on the seventh and 18th holes during his Thursday round of 7-over 78.
First-year star Ethan de Graaf (Edmonton) birdied the par-4 fourth hole en route to an 8-over 79. He's part of a group in 62nd at 20-over 233 (80-74-79).
Christopher Horton (Calgary) birdied No. 18 to turn in a 12-over 83 score in Thursday's round. The sophomore is in 85th with a total of 32-over 245 (83-79-83).
Horton will be the first UBC player to tee off tomorrow's final round, starting at 8:20 a.m. PT from the first hole. The Thunderbirds will be paired with Keiser (Fla.) and Oklahoma City.
