NAIA-West All-Conference Team Announced—Trainor, Windeler, and Burch Lead Honorees
LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) office announced the 2019 All-NAIA West team on Friday evening, recognizing and honoring the conference’s elite performers on the baseball diamond in 2019.
Lewis-Clark State’s Darren Trainor was named the NAIA-West Player of the Year. He registered the second-best batting average (.356) in the conference this season, while also blasting seven homers and driving in 51 runs.
British Columbia’s Niall Windeler and Lewis-Clark State’s Tyler Burch collected NAIA-West Co-Pitcher of the Year plaudits, with both serving as the dominant lead men for their respective pitching staffs.
Windeler went 5-3 with a 3.10 ERA in 2019, striking out an NAIA West-leading 99 hitters in 81 and a third innings of work. The highlight of his season came on April 20, when he tossed the Thunderbirds’ first-ever solo nine-inning no hitter against Oregon Tech, earning his NAIA Pitcher of the Week recognition.
For Burch, it’s his second-consecutive season earning NAIA-West Pitcher of the Year accolades, turning in yet another brilliant performance in 2019. The senior from East Wenatchee, Wash. finished the season with a 2.93 ERA, going 5-3 in 12 starts on the bump. He struck out 58 while surrendering just 13 walks on the season, ending the spring campaign with a WHIP of just 1.04.
The two northern rivals also share Coach of the Year accolades, with British Columbia’s Chris Pritchett earning the nod for the second time in his career, and Lewis-Clark State leader Jake Taylor collecting the award in his inaugural campaign at the helm of the perennial powerhouse from Lewiston.
