SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University athletic department announced on Thursday morning that Abigail Farler has resigned from her role as head coach of the Warrior softball team, effective at the end of the month. Farler has accepted a position as the head softball coach at Abilene Christian University, an NCAA Division I program located in Abilene, Texas.
"Abigail has been an amazing leader to the softball team since her arrival at Corban," said Warrior director of athletics, Twiggs Reed. "Greater still is her desire to mentor young women. She has impacted her players for Christ, helping them to grow stronger in their faith in Jesus and service to others. We are sad to lose Abigail's skill, integrity and infectious faith. Congratulations to coach Farler and this amazing coaching opportunity, you will be truly missed at Corban University."
Farler leaves after three seasons at the helm of the Navy and Gold, during which she compiled a 120-44 overall record and .732 win percentage. Over the summer, Farler made history by becoming the fastest Warrior head coach ever to reach the 100-win plateau, regardless of sport. In addition, her .732 win percentage is the top mark all-time for the program.
Corban made appearances in the NAIA National Tournament in each of her three seasons as the squad's captain, with the high point of Farler's tenure undoubtedly coming during the postseason stretch of the magical 2017 season. During the campaign—which was her first year as the team's head coach—the Warriors claimed their second-ever Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Regular-Season Championship, while later going on a historic run at the NAIA World Series. Corban would end the unprecedented season as the 2017 NAIA National Runner-Up, the highest finish of any team in Warrior history.
"I am so grateful for my time at Corban," said Farler. "The university and athletic department have been fantastic to work with for the last three years. I know that I have grown as a coach, leader, wife, and mom because of my time here. I will miss working with my student-athletes and the staff here at Corban, but I am excited for this new adventure for my family."
A national search will begin to find the next head coach for the Corban University softball team.
