Joaquin, Covey voted U.S. Bank Scholar-Athletes of the Year
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Britnee Joaquin and Conner Covey from Northwest Christian University were selected to receive the Cascade Collegiate Conference U.S. Bank Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, the conference office announced today. The award is the CCC’s top academic honor.
Joaquin, a member of the women’s soccer team, and Covey, a member of the men’s cross-country and track/field team, were chosen based on a vote by the conference’s athletic directors.
Joaquin, a senior from Simi Valley, California, completed her undergraduate degree this year in Education finishing her career with a perfect 4.0 grade point average (GPA). She was named the NCU Student Teacher of the Year and was the recipient of the Presidential Scholar Award. Joaquin became only the fourth student-athlete to earn the prestigious honor in the history of the award.
Joaquin was twice named NCU's Scholar-Athlete of the Year, was a three-time U.S. Bank Academic All-Conference selection and a two-time NAIA-Daktronics Scholar-Athlete. On two occasions she also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors. The four-year soccer player for the Beacon’s was also inducted into the NCU chapter of the National Scholar-Athlete Honor Society, Chi Alpha Sigma. Joaquin was also named the 2018-19 female Les Schwab Champion of Character for the league.
Covey, from Medford, Ore., graduated with a 4.0 GPA in Exercise Science program and became the first Beacon male student-athlete to ever complete a career with a perfect grade point average. He earned U.S. Bank Academic All-Conference honors six times, NAIA-Daktronics Scholar-Athlete recognition four times and was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team. Covey was also inducted into the NCU chapter of the National Scholar-Athlete Honor Society, Chi Alpha Sigma this past year.
A four-year member of the men's cross-country and track/field teams, Covey was the 2019 CCC Steeplechase Champion.
