CORVALLIS, Ore. – Southern Oregon University head softball coach Jessica Pistole was selected as the Cascade Collegiate Conference Coach of Character, the conference office announced today. Pistole will be the CCC’s nominee for the national award.

“Coach Pistole espouses a brand of character connected to a championship work ethic that reaches beyond the game of softball, stated SOU Director of Athletics Matt Sayre. “She is committed to teaching selflessness as the most honest way to show respect; to honor your teammates, family and opponents; to serve the community around you; and the integrity of real effort. She is truly a coach of character.

Pistole has served as the head coach of the Raiders since 2014 and led the team to their first NAIA National Championship this past season. Here teams have consistently had a cumulative GPA well above 3.0 and engage in upwards of 300 service hours annually in Ashland.

As part of the nomination process schools had an opportunity to have a current or former student-athlete submit a letter of recommendation. All-American and 2018 NAIA Player of the Year Harlee Donovan said of Pistole, “The responsibility instilled in each of us as players to be an SOU softball player is special and Coach Pistole makes sure that we know what a privilege it is.” “Our integrity as individuals and as a team is one of our biggest focuses.”

The national award winner will be announced in September during the annual NAIA Awards Day.
