CORVALLIS, Ore. – Rich Dorman, an all-time great on the mound for the Corban University baseball team, will return to the Pacific Northwest as the pitching coach for the prestigious Oregon State University baseball program.

Dorman was the Warriors' first-ever representative in the Major League Baseball (MLB) Amateur Draft, picked by Tampa Bay in the 13th round of the 2000 Draft. He still stands as the Navy and Gold baseball program's highest-ever selection.

After nine years as a professional pitcher himself, Dorman coached in the Seattle Mariners' organization for eight seasons before transitioning to Grand Canyon University. Under his tutelage, the Lope pitching unit saw record numbers as a staff, posting its second-lowest team ERA (4.02) since transitioning to the NCAA Division I level. The squad held opposing hitters to a measly .259 batting average, the third-best mark in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).

Now Dorman will have the opportunity to play a prominent role in one of the most-esteemed collegiate baseball programs in the country, joining a Beaver team that has claimed the most NCAA Division I National Championships of any team since the turn of the century, winning the College World Series three times in the past 13 years.

"We are getting a very special man who genuinely cares about people," said Beaver head coach Mitch Canham. "Rich not only is phenomenal about communicating with both student-athletes and staff, but he is an elite pitching coach. I have seen his passion first-hand, and believe Rich is going to do amazing things here at Oregon State."

During his time with the Warriors, Dorman excelled on the mound. The Medford, Ore. native fanned 81 batters in his final season with the Navy and Gold, the No. 2 mark for single-season strikeouts in program history. Nearly the school's first-ever representative at the major league level, Dorman appeared in a combined total of 60 games at Triple-A Tacoma.

Dorman is one of seven former members of the Corban baseball program to sign professional contracts with MLB-affiliated clubs.
