LAKELAND, Fla. – Getting off to a strong start for the 2019 season, the No. 10 Eastern Oregon volleyball team won two road contests over Webber International (25-18, 25-16, 25-16) and Warner (25-14, 21-25, 25-23, 25-11) on Friday afternoon.
GAME 1 | #10 Eastern Oregon 3, Webber International 0
The Mounties started the season with clean sweep of Webber International, hitting .184 as a team while holding the Warriors to -.008 with 24 errors to 23 kills. The team totaled 69 digs and had four team blocks in the victory.
The defense was stingy as junior Kiley McMurtrey led all players with 21 digs. Junior Madison Pilon had 16 while senior Megan Bunn posted 11. Pilon also paced all players with 22 assists and Bunn led the attack with 11 kills.
Sophomore Cambree Scott finished with three block assists and six kills and senior Hailee Ackerman added seven kills.
GAME 2 | #10 Eastern Oregon 3, Warner 1
The Mountaineers dropped their first set of the season, but it didn't affect the end result as they took down the Royals in four sets. EOU slipped by in a very close third set 25-23 before finding their rhythm in the final set for a dominating 25-11 win.
The Blue and Gold outhit the Royals .166 to .086, including a 48-39 advantage in kills. Bunn once again had a team-high 12 kills while Ackerman and Scott each had eight. Scott was also impressive up front with six block assists.
McMurtrey had her second-straight 20-dig performance with 21, while junior Aspen Christiansen had 18. Pilon recorded another double-double from the setter position with 19 assists and 16 digs.
The Mountaineers take the weekend off before visiting Florida Memorial and St. Thomas on Tuesday in Miami Gardens, Florida.
