Women’s Soccer Opens Season With Win
It might have taken some extra time, but The Evergreen State College women’s soccer team open the 2019 season with a win defeating Douglas College 3-2 in overtime on Friday at the Geoducks Pitch.
Maddie Lockwood got things rolling for the Geoducks at 10:17. She was able to dribble around her opponent and flick the ball into the back of the net.
The Royals had an answer at 21:43 when Gracie Quesnelle hit the back of the net. She received the ball from Taylor Wettig and Mikaela Monagano. Douglas College took the lead at 48:05 by Taylor Spong and assisted by Nisha Samara.
The Geoducks picked up the tempo and at 82:04, Madison Early was able to tie the game with a flick of the ball she received from a throw-in by Lockwood.
After regular time expired and the score tied, we headed into overtime. In the first 10 minutes the game was still tied and we headed into the second overtime. At 103:29, Alyssa Nordman kicked the ball into the back of the net to give the Geoducks the win. She received the ball from Early.
Alexis Backus was in the net for Evergreen and recorded the win. She had four saves for the game.
The Geoducks are back in action on Monday for a scrimmage against Portland Community College. Evergreen will then face Pacific Lutheran at 2 p.m. in Tacoma on Saturday, Aug. 24th.
