UBC Tops Both Golf Preseason Polls
CORVALLIS, Ore. – After a stellar debut season in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, UBC’s men’s and women’s golf teams are unanimously predicted to take the championships once again. The Thunderbirds sit in the top spot on both preseason coaches’ polls, released Tuesday.
British Columbia’s women, who picked up all six first-place votes for 36 points, look to carry momentum over from last year’s outstanding season, where the ‘Birds won the CCC regular-season and tournament championships to advance to the NAIA National Championship as the automatic qualifier. UBC won the national crown in record fashion, setting a new 72-hole tournament record as the ‘Birds beat out then No. 1-ranked Keiser (Fla.).
Oregon Tech picked up 30 points in the preseason poll after taking second in the conference and grabbing an at-large bid to the NAIA Championship. The Lady Owls finished 10th on the national stage, which was a program best.
Corban University (24 points) and Northwest Christian University (16 points) filled in spots No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, while the College of Idaho (12 points) and Walla Walla University (8 points) closed out the poll.
On the men’s side, UBC picked up all seven first-place votes to grab 49 total points in the preseason poll. The ‘Birds come off a regular-season and tournament CCC Championship, before taking fifth at the NAIA Championship Tournament.
OIT sits in second entering the 2019-20 season, earning 41 points in the poll. The Hustlin’ Owls grabbed an at-large bid to the NAIA tournament, where they finished 23rd as a team.
Only three points separate the No. 3 and No. 4 spots, with NCU (33 points) just edging out Corban (30 points). C of I (20 points), WWU (13 points) and Multnomah (10 points) round out the remaining three spots of the poll.
