Volleyball 8/20/2019 6:35:00 PM Iain Dexter, EOU Sports Information Director No. 10 EOU Volleyball Finishes Florida Trip Undefeated LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 10 Eastern Oregon volleyball team wrapped up a perfect Florida trip with two more wins on Tuesday, sweeping both Florida Memorial (25-20, 25-16, 25-12) and St. Thomas (Fla.) (25-22, 25-22, 25-11) in non-conference action. GAME 1 | #10 Eastern Oregon 3, Florida Memorial 0 The Mountaineers (4-0) got progressively stronger in each set in the match, eventually claiming the third set by a dominating 25-12 score. The defense improved in the last two sets, forcing more Lion errors than kills to limit FMU to a -.009 hitting percentage for the match. The offense was led by sophomore Cambree Scott in the middle and senior Hailee Ackerman on the outside. Scott paced all players with eight kills, including zero attack errors, hitting .444 for the match with three block assists. Ackerman finished with seven kills and a .462 hitting percentage. Junior Madison Pilon had her third-straight match with at least 20 assists to open the season, also chipping in with seven digs. Junior Kiley McMurtrey posted a team-best 11 digs. GAME 2 | #10 Eastern Oregon 3, St. Thomas 0 The Blue and Gold earned its three sweep in four matches to start the season, coming away with two close set wins at 25-22 apiece before dominating St. Thomas 25-11 in the third and final set. The Mounties came away with a plus 12-point differential on serves over the Bobcats. EOU finished with 10 service aces to four errors, while STU had nine service errors, proving crucial in the two close first sets. Four Mounties had two service aces including Ackerman, Pilon, McMurtrey and senior Megan Bunn. The defense was especially tough on the Bobcats in the third set, forcing 12 attack errors as St. Thomas hit -.206. Ackerman led the attack with 10 kills and a .321 hitting percentage. Sophomore Breanna Shaffer posted seven kills on 19 attacks. Scott and Bunn each had three block assists. Junior Aspen Christiansen led the back row with 17 digs, followed by McMurtrey and Bunn with 11 apiece. Pilon once again hit the 20 assist mark with 21. The Mountaineers stay on the road, heading straight to Nebraska for three-straight top-25 battles. EOU visits No. 3 Grand View on Friday at 5 p.m. Central time, followed by No. 22 Bellevue on Saturday at 10 a.m. CT and No. 14 Hastings at 4 p.m. CT.
