Volleyball Splits Day To Close Out Big Sky Challenge

BUTTE, Mont. – The Evergreen State College women’s volleyball team concluded the Big Sky Challenge today by defeating Montana Western 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-13) this morning and then falling to Providence 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-23) this afternoon.

Evergreen will open Cascade Collegiate Conference play in Portland, Ore., next week. The Geoducks will see Multnomah on Friday, Sept. 6th at 7 p.m. and then face Warner Pacific on Saturday, Sept. 7th at 5 p.m.

 

Evergreen 3, Montana Western 0

Evergreen was led by Zoe Shaw, who recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs. Sierra Wolff added 30 assists and Leiko Yamauchi added 17 digs. As a team, Evergreen hit a .345 and had a best hitting percentage of .364 in the first set.

Montana Western was led by Emmah Peterson, who had 10 kills. Madison Richtmyer recorded 14 assists.

“We got the win this morning playing together like a team,” said head coach Angela Spoja. “Zoe Shaw had a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs. Leiko Yamauchi had 17 digs. Zoe was followed by Renita Gray with nine kills and then Chloee Hunt with eight.”

 

Providence 3, Evergreen 0

Evergreen was led by Zoe Shaw, who had another double-double on the day with 10 kills and 14 digs. Sierra Wolff recorded 20 assists ad Libero Lexi Sanchez had 19 digs.

Providence was led by Kelsey Shaver, who had 20 kills. Cydney Finberg-Roberts added 18 assists and Sacha Legros recorded 18 digs.

“We had a good defensive day today, not so good offensively,” said head coach Angela Spoja. “Regardless of the loss, it was a good game against a good team.”
