CORVALLIS, Ore. –The Eastern Oregon University volleyball team has been named the “Under Armour Team of the Week” for August 19-25 the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.

No. 10 Eastern, competing in Florida and Nebraska, went undefeated in five matches on the week and ran their overall record to a perfect 7-0 on the young season.

The Mountaineers flexed their collective muscles in the Sunshine state defeating Florida Memorial 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-12) and St. Thomas (Fla.)  3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-11) in what would be a tune-up for three straight matches versus top 25 programs.

Eastern would harvest three big wins in the Cornhusker state against No. 3 Grandview University, No. 22 Bellevue University and tourney host and No. 14 Hastings University while competing in the Bill Marshall Volleyball Classic.

Against Grandview Hailee Ackerman led the attack with 10 kills, followed by Cambree Scott with seven. Madison Pilon had her fifth-straight double-double with 19 assists and 12 while Kiley McMurtrey posted 23 digs in the lopsided victory 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-13).  It was the defense that shined in the win over Bellevue 4-0 (21-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-20). After dropping the first set, Eastern held the Bruins to a below .100 hitting percentage. Jet Taylor posted nine block assists with the team total 12.

In what would be an old-fashioned slugfest, The Mountaineers overcame a determined Hastings team that led in nearly every statistical category except the one that matters most- the “W.” Trailing 23-21 in game four, EOU rattled off three-straight points to keep the game going before finally winning 30-28. In game five they cruised to a 15-10 advantage to take the match 3-2 (25-22, 15-25, 18-25, 30-28, 15-10). Megan Bunn led the attack with 16 kills while McMurtrey posted 29 digs.

Eastern Oregon (7-0 overall, 0-0 CCC) will stay a little closer to home competing in the College of Idaho Labor Day Tournament August 30-31.
