Battlin' Bears Fall 4-0 to Westmont

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Fueled by three goals in the first half, No. 25 ranked Westmont College defeated Rocky Mountain College 4-0 Saturday afternoon.

Held scoreless, the Battlin' Bears (1-1, 0-0 CCC) were unable to keep pace with a Westmont (3-1, 0-0 GSAC) offense that held a 23-6 shot advantage. Goalie Maia Wetzel pulled in 10 saves with four goals allowed through 90 minutes. On the other end, Gabi Haw recorded a shutout with six saves.

Westmont's Maddi Berthoud scored the first goal for the Warriors unassisted from eight yards out in the 23rd minute.

In the 41st minute, Isabelle Berthoud knocked in a goal for Westmont off an assist from Valerie Swisher. Two minutes later, Kira Nemeth put the Warriors up by three with an assist from Teagan Matye.

The only goal of the second period came from Westmont's Grace Duckens. Taking a pass from Bri Johnson, Duckens knocked in a ball from 23 yards out in the 71st minute.

Lauryn Gamache had three shots on goal for the Battlin' Bears.

Westmont held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Battlin' Bears will next play University of Jamestown in Jamestown, N.D., on Sept. 8.
