College Place, Wash. –  Walla Walla hosted the No. 20-ranked Yotes of College of Idaho (CoI) on Wednesday evening for another clash against a top-25 opponent home. The Yotes rode 47 kills en route to a straight-set victory over the Wolves, 26-24, 25-15, 25-15.

In the early stages of the opening set, both teams played even, knotting the set up at 8-8. After a Gabrielle Browning kill gave the Wolves a one-point advantage, the Yotes responded with a quick 4-0 run reclaim claim the lead, extending their lead to six at 21-15. The Wolves did not go down without a fight, as a 5-1 run highlighted by three kills forced head coach Liz Mendiola to call a timeout. Immediately following the timeout the Wolves scored off a Sarah Halversen kill followed by a Kaydre Thompson kill. With their backs against the walls, trailing 23-21, the Wolves put together a 3-0 run to force set point, however, the No. 20-ranked Yotes rode three consecutive kills to claim set one, 26-24, as the Wolves missed an opportunity to steal the opening set.

Set two saw a similar theme, as both teams battled to a 9-9 tie. A 5-0 run gave the Yotes breathing room and they continued to push their lead, eventually claiming victory in the set 25-15, using a balanced attack and outscoring the Wolves in kills 16-9.

The Yotes wasted no time in set three, scoring seven of the first eight points to hold a 7-1 lead. Despite being down 2-0 and starting off the set in a hole, the Wolves responded with a 6-0 run to tie up the score 7-7. The Yotes responded with a run of their own, reeling off a 7-1 run to give them a cushion. The Yotes continued their attack and held off a rally, dropping the Wolves 25-15 and claiming the match in straight sets.

The Yotes were led by Jordyn Boswell (13 kills), Abigail Guinn (22 assists), and Brianna Barta (13 assists) to lead a well-balanced attack.

Walla Walla was led by Sarah Halversen (6 kills), while Krista Schafer (9 assists) and Ka'iluna Chamberlain led the Wolves in assists.

The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. The Yotes look ahead to their top-25 matchup at No.8-ranked Eastern Oregon University tomorrow evening in La Grande, Ore.
