Evergreen Keeps Winning Streak Alive
After falling in the first set, The Evergreen State College women's volleyball program came back and defeated Northwest Christian 3-1 (18-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-18) Friday night at the Constantino Recreation Center.
The Geoducks were led by Zoe Shaw, who had 16 kills and 14 digs for a double-double. Tasha Hungate added 11 kills. Sierra Wolff recorded 51 assists, which ranks 10th all-time in Evergreen history, and Leiko Yamauchi had 25 digs.
"We played hard tonight and stuck to our game plan after set one," said head coach Angela Spoja. "Our defenders came in clutch with 25 digs for Leiko Yamauchi and 18 for Nicole Duryea. With their defense and serve receive we were able to get into an offensive rhythm."
"Sierra Wolff tallied 51 assists, which is her highest average this season, and Zoe Shaw and Renita Gray were a force to be reckoned with on the outside tallying 16 and 14, respectively," added Spoja. "Tasha Hungate rounded off our offense with 11 kills and has been working really hard on transition. We look forward to our competitive match with Corban tomorrow. We are enjoying the journey this season and taking it match-by-match and point-by-point."
As a team, Evergreen hit a .221 for the match and best .325 in the fourth set. The Geoducks recorded seven team blocks.
Northwest Christian was led by Claire Salness, who had 15 kills and 11 digs for a double-double. Taylor Gould recorded 10 kills. Makenna Northern recorded a double-double with 41 assists and 14 digs.
Evergreen will be back in action at home on Saturday at 5 p.m. against 11th-ranked Corban.
