EOU Snags Another CCC Win Against Evergreen

LA GRANDE, Ore. - The Eastern Oregon women's volleyball team snagged another win with their four set (26-24, 19-25, 25-23, 25-12) victory against The Evergreen State College Geoducks (6-9, 4-2 CCC) on Friday in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

Beating the Geoducks improves the Mountaineers' overall record to 14-1 and 4-1 in the CC. This was EOU's second home game of the season and remained undefeated at home this season (2-0).

The first set proved that the Mountaineers had competition in the Geoducks. Evergreen came out hot collecting the first ten points while the Mountaineers struggled to get with only five points of their own. However, the Mountaineers started to gain some momentum after a service ace by junior libero Kiley McMurtrey, a dump kill from junior setter Madison Pilon and two kills from sophomore outside Breanna Shaffer. With the score at 21-17, Pilon added two more back to back kills closing the score at 21-19. Still pushing back, the Geoducks earned a few more points of their own. At 23-20, two back-to-back kills from Cambree Scott put the Mountaineer's within one of Evergreen. After two tying scores of 23-23 and 24-24, the Mountaineer's took the set at 26-24.

The second set was fairly neck-and-neck as both teams were within two points of each other until Evergreen went ahead 11-8. The Geoducks increased the score to 13-9 and then 18-10. At 20-12, the Geoducks had their largest lead of the game. Eventually Evergreen won the set 25-19.

The third set was more of the Mountaineers' speed, keeping the score within two points the entire set. The Mountaineers tied the score on more than eleven different occasions, ultimately tying it for the last time at 20-20. After two service aces by junior defensive specialist Aspen Christiansen and two kills from senior outside Megan Bunn, senior right side Taylor Tibbetts finished the set 25-23 with a kill.

The fourth and final set was easily controlled by the Mountaineers after gaining momentum after the third, going on a four-point run in the first four points. EOU had their largest lead of the game at 23-10 with sophomore middle Jet Taylor solidifying the win for the Mountaineers with a kill.  

The offensive leaders for the Mountaineer's were Bunn with 13 kills, Shaffer with 10, and sophomore middle hitter Cambree Scott with eigth. The Mounties recorded a .248 hitting percentage. Pilon led the team in assists with 38. On the defensive side of the ball, McMurtrey paced the team with 14 digs while freshman Sade Williams and Pilon had 13 digs of their own. Six blocks and 67 digs just outdid the Geoducks' five blocks and 65 digs.
 
For the Geoducks, Lily Stewart earned a team high of 13 kills. Sierra Wolff lead the team in assists at 45 and Leiko Yamauchi had 19 digs.
