VANCOUVER – The UBC men's golf team was the top Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) squad, and second overall, at the UBC Thunderbirds Invitational golf tournament at the Sudden Valley Golf Course in Bellingham, Wash.
The Victoria Vikes of the Association of Independent Institutions, earned first place at the two-day tournament by 26 strokes. UBC shot a collective score of 880 to finish the event at 16-over par through three rounds at the NAIA CCC tournament.
At 28-over 892, Oregon Tech (306-286-300) was third. Corban (Ore.) and Northwest Christian (Ore.) tied for fourth at 30-over 894. The Warriors had rounds of 299, 301 and 294, while NCU went 303-296-295. Multnomah (Ore.) was sixth with a score of 51-over 915 (307, 300 and 308), followed by Walla Walla (Wash.) at 81-over 945 (320-313-312) and the College of Idaho, which posted a result of 122-over 986 (330-333-323).
Victoria's Robin Conlan (5-under 67), Brandon McManus (1-under 71) and Josh Miller (2-under 70) helped the Vikes card a team total of 280 in the final round to win the tournament at 9-under par.
Malcolm Glumpak led the 'Birds with a total score of 1-under 214 after shooting a 1-over 73 in the final round of play. Second-year T-Bird Ethan de Graaf put up a notable 4-under 68 in Round 3 to finish tied for 10th with a combined score of 3-over 219 on the tournament. UBC's Logan Carver and Andrzej Wierzba tied for 18th with identical scores of 7-over 218.
Fraser Valley's Daniel Campbell topped the men's leaderboard with a dominant 12-under 204 performance over the event – beating teammate Zach Olson (6-under 210) by six strokes. Fellow Cascade Kyle Claggett finished in a tie for third in the individual scoring with Victoria's Conlan after carding a 5-under 211.
Jacob Larson of Multnomah (Ore.) had a strong performance over the three rounds, finishing ninth at 1-over 217 (72-72-73).
