Three Goals Lifts Men’s Soccer Over Walla Walla
Joe DiCarlo, Mitchell Balmer and Tina Pantaleon scored the goals as The Evergreen State College men's soccer team defeated Walla Walla 3-1 on the Geoduck Pitch Friday afternoon.
The beginning of the game was a little wet with the rain coming down, but the sun finally broke through the clouds.
DiCarlo got the match going with a score at 35:23. Alex Young had the kick that went off the goalkeeper's gloves and DiCarlo followed through with the goal. Evergreen went into the half 1-0.
After the half, WWU got on the scoreboard by Pedro Reyes at 56:54 with the assist from Emmett Semple but Evergreen had an answer by Mitchell Balmer. He received the ball from Maxton Hauser and Young at 60:29.
Evergreen sealed the win at 82:20 by Pantaleon with the assist from Balmer.
"The team did a really good job of taking care of each other today," said head coach John Purtteman. "They were in command of the play for large stretches but still found themselves tied early in the second half. I though their response to the goal was the story today. They showed their resilience and closed the game in style."
Hunter Bowman recorded the win for the Geoducks and recorded two saves.
Evergreen recorded 18 shots for the game with nine on goal. Walla Walla had seven shots with three on goal.
The Geoducks will be back in action on Sunday at 3 p.m. to see Rocky Mountain College on the Geoduck Pitch. The match will follow the women's soccer team.
