ASHLAND – Southern Oregon freshman Baylee Touey wasted little time making herself at home at Raider Stadium on Friday afternoon.

Touey, the North Valley High product, scored her fifth goal and was credited with an assist of another by Misty Martinez as the 23rd-ranked Raiders made an early statement with a 2-0 defeat of Carroll (Mont.), the 2018 Cascade Conference co-champion.

SOU (4-2-1 overall, 1-0-1 CCC) was at home for the first time this season and ran its unbeaten streak in Ashland to 12 games dating back to 2017. Carroll dropped to 4-3-1 and 1-2 in conference play.

The shutout was the Raiders' fourth in their past five games. Senior keeper Kailey Lemon only needed one save to secure it, though defender Jazmin Shaffer used her head to deny an on-target shot after a scramble in the second half.

In the 11th minute, Mia Volpatti lofted a pass out of a crowd from midfield that went down the right sideline and hit Touey in stride. The speedy forward dribbled into the box and skipped a shot past keeper Sydney Green after drawing her away from her post.

Four minutes before halftime, the Raiders made it 2-0 after freshman Phoebe Bunn sent another long pass from midfield to Touey, who beat her defender to fire off another quality look. Green stopped it, but Martinez was there for her first goal of the season and the ninth of her career.

Volpatti's assist was her second of 2018 and 12th in four years. Touey's assist was her first, but she's now the fourth-leading goal scorer among all CCC players.

The Raiders had a 9-8 edge in shots. They stayed aggressive in their attack throughout the afternoon, as indicated by their six offsides calls.

Green recorded three saves for the Saints.

They'll be home again at 10 a.m. Sunday to take on Providence (Mont.).
