Second Round Leads Warrior Men’s Golf to Sixth Place Finish at Wildcat Invitational
MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Warriors men's golf team found a way to pull out a sixth-place finish in a two-round Wildcat Invitational that battled the weather to get finished. The tournament was hosted by Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore. at Michelbook Country Club.
RESULTS
The Warriors' first round was rough, as they found themselves in 8th place out of 10 competing teams in the invitational. They shot a 329 in their rigid first round.
Landon Joy was the team leader, who played well enough to earn himself a tie for 9th place individually by shooting an 8-over-152. His first round, like many others was a much less refined round than his second. He shot a first round total of 79, while his second go around was a sparkling 73 shot stanza.
McKinnley Reznicsek scored a tie for 16th place in the individual side of the tournament. He, like Joy, was hit with the fierce first-round jitters, shooting an 81 in his first work in the invitational. He also scored a solid 73 in the second round, which planted him two strokes behind Joy at +10.
Corban's Nick Torry and Riley White scored 22 and 25 over scores overall for the Navy and Gold. The Warriors were rounded out by the freshman, Calvin McDonough, who shot a 37-over-181 on the tournament.
Overall, the Warriors' sixth-place finish was the result of a blend of new faces joining the squad for this tune-up affair in McMinnville. Coach Bowers wanted to get a look at how some of his younger and more inexperienced golfers would do in a competitive landscape.
Corban will look ahead to the Concordia (Ore.) Invite in Portland, Ore. on October 7 and 8 at the Columbia Edgewater Country Club to help them continue to improve as the long season rolls along.
