McMINNVILLE, Ore. – After holding a first-round lead, the Northwest Christian University men's golf "A" team settled for third-place on Sunday as they closed out the Linfield College fall event at Michelbook Country Club. The Beacon "B" team was close behind in fourth.
The A team had shot a 296 collectively on Saturday to take a three-shot lead on George Fox into the clubhouse. A 308 on Sunday, however, pushed the Beacons out of contention as GFU won the event by 11 shots over Whitworth College.
The Beacons finished at 604 while the B team shot a 306 on Sunday to finish at 611. Cascade Collegiate Conference rival Corban University struggled over the weekend, taking sixth-place at 640, 38 shots behind NCU.
Individually, it was Caden Stubbs (pictured) who shined the brightest, tying for fourth-place as he led the B team with a 149. The sophomore shot an even-par 72 in the first round to set a new career-low.
The A team leader was freshman Seth King who shot a 74-76—150 to take seventh. Carter Tetherow followed in a tie for ninth at 152 while Cole Radbourne and Drew Schwarz each posted a 153.
The team consistency continued as Nathan Mallory and Andrew shot a 154, Keegan Spengler posted a 155 and Jon Holzgang carded a 156. Garison Lyman closed out the scoring with a 160.
The Beacons will return to action on October 7 when they head to Incline Village, Nevada to take part in the Sierra Nevada Invitational.
