The Northwest Christian University volleyball team is off to the best start in school history as they extended their record to (8-1) on Tuesday night, beating the Willamette Bearcats in four sets, 25-15, 25-19, 16-25, 25-15.
The Beacons were able to get off to an early against the Bearcats (1-4) as they won their first two sets behind a .414 kill percentage in the first set and .343 in the second set. NCU ended the night with a .310 percentage and 53 kills in the four-set match. The Beacons had a season high eleven aces in the win.
Freshman Payton Jones led the Beacons with 13 kills behind her .545 kill percentage for the match while sophomore Makenna Northern added a team high 35 assists, eight digs and five aces. Junior Claire Salness added ten kills and ten digs for the double double. Senior Natalie Downes contributed nine kills in the win.
Jennifer Lane led the Bearcats with 12 kills while Emma Porter contributed a game high 36 assists. Natalie Klotz added nine kills and 10 digs in the losing effort.
NCU will next play on Friday night as they take on the undefeated Eastern Oregon Mountaineers (10-0) at the Morse Event Center at 7:00 pm.
