Rocky Mountain College Roars to 9-3 Win Over University of Jamestown
JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Scoring five goals in the first period, No. 8 ranked Rocky Mountain College defeated University of Jamestown 9-3 for their first win of the 2019 season.
The Battlin' Bears (1-2, 0-0 CCC) held a 11-2 shot advantage over the Jimmies in the first period as they raced to a five goal lead by the half. Both Pablo Ferreira and Marco Kummerle each had two goals with an additional goal by Milo Downey. Nolan Sherwood assisted on four of the five goals in the first period.
Sherwood found the back of the net himself in the 63rd minute off an assist from Kummerle.
Down by six, Ruben Zepeda knocked in a ball from Aaron Pike to put the Jimmies (2-2, 0-0 GPAC) on the board in the 74th minute. Less than a minute later, Sam Davidson scored Rocky's seventh goal of the game off an assist from Jonah Gronmayer. Jamestown immediately responded as Pike scored for the Jimmies nearly 30 seconds later off of Eric Fairtlough.
Both teams kept the pressure on as time dwindled in the final ten minutes. Sky Swenson scored his first goal of the season off an assist from Seth Kalberer in the 84th minute. In the 85th minute, Chris Hare found the back of the net for Jamestown's final goal of the game with help from Fairtlough. Rocky's final goal came from Lachlan Gilchrist who knocked in a ball from Milo Downey a minute later to put the final score at 9-3.
All three of Rocky's goalkeepers saw playing time as Kristofer Wennin, Ryan Cornwall, and Brandon Kraenzel each recorded one of Rocky's three saves. Jamestown's Jake Askew had five saves and nine goals allowed.
Rocky had a 19-7 shot advantage and all 10 of the game's corner kicks through 90 minutes.
The Battlin' Bears will open conference play on September 20 against Multnomah at Wendy's Field.
