Under Armour Team of the Week Announced
CORVALLIS, Ore. –The Southern Oregon University men’s basketball team has been named the “Under Armour Team of the Week” for January 13-19 the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.
If No. 15 Southern Oregon men’s basketball continues its torrid pace in the CCC they may very well point to these three critical wins as the jumping off point towards what they hope is a spot in the conference championship game and a trip to nationals.
After winter weather stranded No. 5 Oregon Tech on the highway headed to Ashland on Tuesday the rival game was rescheduled for Wednesday at Lithia Motors Pavilion. Down by as much as 17-points it appeared to be another disappointing night for SOU. A late game rally led by seniors Aaron Borich and Tate Hoffman lifted the Raiders in the final seconds to a 77-76 victory. Borich nailed a short jumper in the lane to give SOU their first lead of the night while Hoffman blocked an attempted layup on the other end to secure the win.
On Friday, fans were able to relax as the Raiders cruised against Corban University winning 101-73. Hoffman led a group of five players who were in double figures with 18-points. Tez Allen was close to a double-double with 8 points and 8 rebounds.
Stress and suspense returned to Lithia Motors Pavilion on Saturday as the Raiders needed all they had remaining to give after a grueling week to hold off a talented Northwest Christian University squad. 77-74. Hoffman notched his fourth double-double, notching 24 points and 10 rebounds, and the Raiders scored the last three points of the game at the free-throw line to win their seventh straight game.
Southern Oregon (15-4, 9-2 CCC) will next be in action as they travel to No. 3 The College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon January 24-25.
