PORTLAND, Ore. – The No. 13 Eastern Oregon women's wrestling team continued its momentum from Friday's dominating dual win against Grays Harbor to take fourth place overall out of __ teams on Saturday.
Leading the way for the Mountaineers was first place individual finishes by senior Amber Pair and sophomore Erin Redford. Pair earned 14 team points as she won the 116-pound weight class with three convincing victories. Pair pinned her first round opponent in Grays Harbor's Cynthia Diaz. She followed up with an 11-4 decision win against teammate Cassidy Freeman before pinning Providence's Alina Kinsey in the first round to claim the crown.
Redford also went 3-0 on the day in the 143-pound weight class. She dominated her first match with a pin in just 21 seconds. She then followed up with a pair of decision wins to earn first place.
Junior Dempsi Talkington finished 3-1 as her only loss came in the championships match. Talkington breezed through the competition in the first three rounds with three pins before falling to an unattached wrestler in the finals to take second place. Freshman Morgan Shines also placed second at 136 pounds with a 2-1 record.
Senior Cassidy Freeman placed third as she earned a pin in her final match over Cynthia Diaz. Sophomore Krystal Fabricante rebounded after a first round loss to win her next two matches and also take third place. Fabricante won by decision and pin for her two victories.
The Mountaineers will next face rival Southern Oregon on Jan. 24 in Ashland.
