Red Lion Players of the Week Announced
The following CCC student-athletes have been recognized as Red Lion Players of the Week for their performances during the period Jan. 20-26, 2020.
Men’s Basketball – Player
For the second time this year, Walla Walla University’s Kiandre Gaddy was named the Red Lion Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
The six-foot-five freshman forward from Dallas had a stellar week, averaging 37.0 points per game. Gaddy put up a new freshman record, school record (in CCC), and career-high 40 points in the Wolves’ 102-89 victory over Multnomah University and followed with another 34 points the next day. He secured double-doubles in both games to put his tally to 12 on the season. Gaddy finished the week with 16.0 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals per game, while shooting an impressive 73.8-percent from the field.
Women’s Basketball – Player
Northwest Christian University’s Morgan McKinney was named the Red Lion Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, her third honor of the year.
The five-foot-eight junior guard from Lake Oswego, Ore., averaged 24.5 points and shot 62.5-percent from the field as the Beacons won a pair on the road to remain in first-place in the CCC. McKinney added her first double-double of the season against The Evergreen State College with 29 points and 10 rebounds. She ranks 14th in NAIA DII for scoring and is third in the CCC (18.3 ppg). She also leads the conference and is 19th in NAIA DII for shooting percentage (.543).

Men’s Wrestling – Wrestler
Eastern Oregon University’s Keegan Mulhill was named the Red Lion Men’s Wrestler of the Week, his second award of the year.
The 12th-ranked sophomore 174-pounder from Bozeman, Mont., went 2-0 in duals on Saturday, helping lead the Mountaineers to a 3-0 day overall and two CCC victories including against No. 12-ranked Embry-Riddle. Mulhill pinned both his opponents in the first or second round.

Men’s Indoor Track and Field – Track Athlete
Oregon Tech’s Angel Valdez was named the Red Lion Men’s Track Athlete of the Week.
Valdez, a senior from Klamath Falls, Ore., set a new school record by more than three seconds in the men's 600-meter run to lead Oregon Tech at the Ed Jacoby Invite. He finished second in the event with a time of one minute, 21.85 seconds.

Women’s Indoor Track and Field – Track Athlete
Oregon Tech’s Danielle De Castro was named the Red Lion Women’s Track Athlete of the Week.
De Castro, a senior from Seattle, hit an automatic NAIA mark with a time of two minutes, 56.78 seconds in the 1K event at the Ed Jacoby Invite. She currently has the second-fastest time in the 1K, just .2 seconds behind No. 1.

Baseball – Pitcher
Oregon Tech’s Zach Scherman was named the Red Lion Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
The six-foot-two junior from Danville, Calif., was instrumental in the Owls going 2-0 this past weekend as he picked up the win in the first game of the season and the save in the second. He pitched six total innings, where he didn’t allow any hits and struck out six batters.

Baseball – Player
Oregon Tech’s Micah Jio was named the Red Lion Baseball Player of the Week.
The five-foot-seven junior second baseman from Kula, Hawaii, led the Owls to a 2-0 start – their best since 2015 – as he was 3-for-7 at the plate with two walks. Jio scored three times and drove in a total of four, while boasting a .429 batting average. He also was 1-for-1 in stolen base attempts.
