Women's Basketball 1/3/2020 10:51:00 PM Iain Dexter, EOU Sports Information Director EOU’s Home Winning Streak Ends in 66-63 Loss to NCU LA GRANDE, Ore. – Northwest Christian ended the No. 18 Eastern Oregon women's basketball team's 50-game home winning streak on Friday night at Quinn Coliseum, defeating the Mountaineers 66-63 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. EOU's (9-6, 3-2 CCC) streak of 50 home wins in a row began back on Jan. 23, 2016 in an 81-55 win over Corban. That came one night after the Beacons defeated EOU at home on Jan. 22, 2016, the last home loss for the Mounties. Friday's loss came nearly four years later after an incredible run of success within the confines of Quinn Coliseum. Friday's game was close from start to finish, with neither team leading by more than eight points. EOU led 49-46 at the end of the third quarter and kept a three-point lead at 60-57 with 4:04 to play. NCU (10-2, 4-0 CCC) tied the score 63-63 and took the lead by two with 1:29 to play. Neither team would make a field goal the rest of the way as the Beacons scored the only point on a free throw, holding onto the three-point win. The Mountaineers had one final chance to tie the game with just under four seconds to play. After the Beacons missed one of two free throws, they left the door open for the Mounties to potentially tie the game. EOU inbounded the ball and got the shot off with time, but it fell short on a deep shot and fell harmlessly to the hardwood. Morgan McKinney led NCU with 21 points and eight rebounds, scoring the team's final nine points. The Mounties had 10 different scorers on the night, paced by senior Rachel Fielder's 14 points. She also added six rebounds. Sophomore Beverly Slater had seven points and 11 rebounds. Senior Emma Logan finished with five points, nine rebounds and eight assists. Junior Taylor Stricklin finished with eight points and four boards. Overall, the Mounties shot 36.8 percent from the field and 25 percent (6-for-24) from behind the arc. EOU had a large advantage in rebounds at 46-35, including 16 offensive boards, but only turned that into six-second chance points. The Mountaineers will look to begin a new home winning streak on Saturday, hosting Corban at 5:30 p.m. at Quinn Coliseum.
