CORVALLIS, Ore. – After winning the Cascade Collegiate Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament Championship, presented by U.S. Bank, last year, Eastern Oregon University was picked to repeat the feat. The Mountaineers picked up 12 of the possible 13 first-place votes in the 2020-21 CCC Women’s Soccer Coaches’ Preseason Poll, released Tuesday.
EOU comes off a historic 2019 campaign, where it made its first appearance in the NAIA Championship Quarterfinals, finishing the year with a 16-3-4 overall mark. The Mounties won their second CCC tournament title by defeating Rocky Mountain College 2-1 in the championship game and picked up 168 points in the preseason poll.
Oregon Tech sits not far behind the Mounties with one first-place vote and 138 total points in the poll. The Owls claimed the regular-season CCC championship for the first time in program history and will look to carry that momentum over into the new year, under new head coach Casey Tate.
Northwest University and Rocky Mountain tied for third place in the poll, each grabbing 135 points. The Eagles finished 2019 with a 13-6 overall record and advanced to the CCC tournament. The Battlin’ Bears went to the CCC tournament championship game before advancing to the NAIA tournament. RMC finished the year with a 14-5-3 record.
Southern Oregon University (126 points) rounded out the top-five, while College of Idaho (119 points), Corban University (98 points), Carroll College (82 points), University of Providence (67 points) and Warner Pacific University (55 points) filled in spots six through 10, respectively.
The Evergreen State College (40 points), Bushnell University (30 points) and Multnomah University (17 points) closed out the poll.
This year’s soccer season start was delayed until the spring, with the championship tournament being held April 7, 8, and 10 in Springfield, Ore.
