PHOTO GALLERY | EUGENE, Ore. – For the countless families whose lives were turned upside down by the Holiday Farm Fires this fall, the 2020 holidays will undoubtedly be a difficult season. One local non-profit, along with the help of some of the Bushnell Athletics family, are aiming to provide a little hope for Thanksgiving this week.
One Hope is a Eugene-based collective of pastors, leaders, churches and ministries who join together to demonstrate the love of Christ in the greater Eugene/Springfield area. This year, One Hope has worked tirelessly to support families from Blue River and the surrounding areas after the devastation, and this week they will provide 150 families, amounting to 650 people, a full thanksgiving dinner. These food boxes contain a Turkey along with all of the typical fixings that go with it, including mashed potatoes, cranberries, vegetables, stuffing and pie.
This past weekend, work began to prepare for this week’s drive, and a number of student athletes from the women’s basketball, women’s soccer, and volleyball teams stepped up to the plate to help out.
Women’s basketball senior Morgan McKinney, who is doing an internship with One Hope this fall, helped to organize the volunteers. She said, “This experience has been nothing but eye opening. We do so much stuff for those that are in need right now after the fires and we are so happy that we can help them.”
Women’s Soccer junior Sierra Coloma said, “An event like this helps us better serve and appreciate our community. This year has been beyond challenging for most people and the least we can do as a team in this city is come together and help make these times a little easier. It feels incredible knowing we are helping to put food on the table for so many families this year.”
