VANCOUVER, Wash. – The start of the new month also saw the start of sports again in the CCC. A few schools made it out to the Green Meadows Golf Course in Vancouver, Washington, for a couple days of solid competition. The schools competing included Corban University, Bushnell University, and the host school Multnomah University.
FIRST ROUND RECAP: The weather on November 2
nd seemed to reflect the joy the teams had getting to compete within the conference once again – there was not a cloud in the sky to be seen on this sunny day that reached 64 degrees by the afternoon.
The end of day one saw a close finish and an off season well spent on the men’s side. In first was Jacob Larson from Multnomah, shooting a 67 (-5). Right behind him was Jon Holzgang from Bushnell with 69 (-3), followed by his teammate Liam Bedford who shot a 70 (-2). In fourth was Jonah Pemberton from Multnomah who tallied a 74 (+2). Rounding out the top five with a representative from each school was a three-way tie, all with a score of 75 (+3). Included in the mix was Nick Torry (Corban), Caden Stubbs (Bushnell), and Chase Snodgrass (Multnomah).
The final team scores from round one saw Bushnell in first with 290, Multnomah in second with 296, and Corban in third with 313.
The faceoff between Corban and Bushnell on the women’s side made the competition a fun battle. At the end of the day the two teams were neck and neck, with the overall team scores just three strokes apart . In the lead was Corban with 353, with a score of 356 for Bushnell. Corban took the lead and had their Vancouver native, Delainey Patterson, finishing the day in first with 75 (+3). In second was Kelsie Hellwege from Bushnell who tallied an 81 (+9), and in third was her teammate Cassidy Krauss who shot an 86 (+14).
SECOND ROUND RECAP: Day two of the tournament was not as admirable of playing weather as the day before, with consistent rain and a low of 50 degrees to show a preview of a Pacific Northwest winter.
The top individuals on the men’s side was slightly altered after the second and final round was complete. Holding his spot in first and taking the solo victory was Jacob Larson from Multnomah, with a score of 71 (-1) to make his total 138 (-6). Bushnell still held second on the individual side, but this time Liam Bedford was in the spot after he tallied a 72 for a total of 142 (-2). In third was Nick Torry from Corban, with an overall score of 149 (+5) after his round two score of 74 (+2).
Taking the win as a team was Bushnell with a final score of 599, second was Multnomah with 604, and Corban in third with 628.
Unlike the men’s side, the top individuals on the women’s side did not alter after the final round. With the hometown victory, Delainey Patterson from Corban finished in first with a final score of 157 (+13) after she hit an 82 (+10) in round two. Bushnell held second and third again with Kelsie Hellwege and Cassidy Krauss with scores of 164 (+20) and 173 (+29) respectively. Due to a disqualification on the team scoring side from Corban, Bushnell took the victory with a final score of 718.
After sealing the win on both sides, the Bushnell Beacons will host the next tournament featuring members of the CCC on Monday, November 9
th at Emerald Valley Golf Club in Creswell, Oregon.
