PORTLAND – Out-rebounded 60-29, Northwest absorbed a 88-48 loss at NCAA Division I Portland State Tuesday.

The Vikings turned 26 offensive rebounds into 24 second-chance points, winning that column 24-3.

“We need to play more as a unit,” said Northwest Head Coach Jeff Drinkwine. “We didn’t play NU basketball tonight. As we play games, we need to continue to grow and mature. The great thing about athletics is that you get to come back and play another day and start all over again.”

The Eagles converted jump shots early and led as late as the 13:56 mark of the first half, but PSU took the lead for good on a 14-2 run. The Vikings led 36-24 at the half after a buzzer-beating PSU three-pointer.

An 18-2 run gave Portland State a 56-28 lead in the second half.

Dejwan Walker led the Eagles with nine points. Cacao Chatman and J.R. Delgado added seven each. Chatman also led with three assists.

Daniel Sharpe and Sandoval led NU with five and four rebounds, respectively.

The Eagles shot 29.1 percent from the field, including 6-22 (27 percent) from three-point range. Keaton McKay was two-of-three from three-point range.

Northwest returns to action Sunday at Seattle University.
