KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Sam Van Loo scored a double-double on Friday night at Danny Miles Court as Northwest University (6-15, 4-7 CCC) claimed a 58-55 victory over Oregon Tech (12-9, 6-5 CCC) with a 5-0 run in the final minute of the game.

"Another tough one tonight," said Head Coach Scott Meredith on the defeat. "After a very slow start in the first quarter, our team really picked up the tempo as the half progressed. The second half was a back and forth battle and Northwest just converted more plays down the stretch. Our bench gave us a tremendous lift tonight and the effort certainly was there. Will be better tomorrow night."

The Eagles started off strong, racking up a 17-4 run to start off the quarter with an Ellesse Fitzgerald three-pointer moving things along. The Lady Owls were able to retaliate near the end of the quarter, going 6-0 to cut their deficit to nine points on the stanza.

By the second Tech was in the groove, with a 16-1 run featuring two long-range baskets from sophomore Kristin Farrell pushing them to their first lead of the game. Northwest quickly got back on top with consecutive two-pointers, but an Emma McKenney three-pointer cut them short and the Owls led 32-29 on the half.

The third quarter featured two lead changes and ties as both teams picked up on their defense. An 8-2 run for the Eagles gave them the advantage in the quarter, but Oregon Tech managed to come out with a single-point advantage.

The score continued to bounce back and forth in the fourth quarter before Northwest came out of a four-point deficit in the final two minutes of the game with a 7-0 run, scoring five of those points in the final minute alone.

Freshmen Makaila Napoleon and Maddyson Tull came off the bench to lead the Lady Owls, with Napoleon scoring 12 points and five rebounds and Tull tallying 10 points. Sophomore Courtney Clemmer followed with eight points, and junior Amanda Constant scored five and eight boards.

Van Loo led the Eagles and took game high with her double-double effort, tallying 14 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocks. Maya DuChesne followed close behind with 13 points – shooting 2-of-4 from long range – and Livi Lindsey scored another 10.

Northwest led in recovery, earning a 42-33 rebounding edge.

Tech showed off a team effort, earning 30 points from their bench and taking a 14-9 assisting edge. The team also forced 17 turnovers while only committing 14 of their own.

The Lady Owls will take on Evergreen State College tomorrow night at Danny Miles Court as part of the 11th Annual Pink Out for breast cancer awareness. The first 1,000 fans will receive a complimentary 2020 Pink Out t-shirt courtesy of Sky Lakes – Breast Health Services.
