KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech (16-11, 10-7 CCC) took down Walla Walla University (3-23, 1-16 CCC) in Cascade Conference play on Friday afternoon at Danny Miles Court 76-59, with a first quarter run holding out to the end.
"Our team accomplished what we set out to do," said Head Coach
Scott Meredith. "We had good minutes from our bench, had more energy and transitioned well. We got to the foul line and caused some foul problems for the Wolves. Our turnovers held us back so tomorrow we will do a better job of taking care of the ball."
The Wolves opened 9-2 but quickly lost the advantage to an 11-3 Tech run. The Lady Owls wouldn't relinquish the lead for the rest of the game, only building on it with an 18-5 run in the third.
An 11-2 run in the final stanza put Walla Walla within five points of the lead, but it was the closest they'd get. The Owls held the Wolves to only six points for the rest of the period as they cranked out 18 to rebuild their lead.
Freshman Maddyson Tull scored 13 to lead Tech and was followed by fellow freshman Makaila Napoleon, who came off the bench to score 12 points and eight rebounds. Napoleon's high scoring contributed to a 28-2 bench advantage for the Owls.
Juniors Amanda Constant and Abby Kreiser rounded out the team with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Constant also grabbed nine boards to lead the Lady Owls to a 47-29 advantage in the stat and Kreiser boosted the team to an 18-8 assisting advantage with five of her own.
Carolina Montes earned 17 points for the Wolves, taking game high in the process. Montes also tallied seven steals throughout the match. Isabella Robles followed up with 12 points and five boards and Jacqueline Saucedo scored 10 points and seven rebounds.
Walla Walla played aggressively, forcing 21 turnovers while only committing 13 of their own and holding a 14-5 edge in steals.
Oregon Tech shot at 82% from the free throw line, earning an 18-6 advantage off the Wolves fouls.
The Lady Owls will square off against Walla Walla again tomorrow night at Danny Miles Court, with tip-off at 7:30 pm. After that, the team will finish up regular season play with games on the 21
st and 22
nd against Warner Pacific University and Multnomah, with both games starting at 5:30 pm at Danny Miles Court.
