Red Lion Players of the Week Announced

The following CCC student-athletes have been recognized as Red Lion Players of the Week for their performances during the period Feb. 10-16, 2020.
 
Men’s Basketball – Player
Oregon Tech’s Mitchell Fink was named the Red Lion Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, his second of the year.
 
The six-foot-one senior guard from Clackamas, Ore., led the Owls to a 3-0 week. He scored 28 points to lift OIT 82-78 over No. 8-ranked Southern Oregon University and had a triple-double (14 points, 10 assists, 10 rebounds) at halftime against Walla Walla University on Saturday. Mitchell is 40 points away from becoming Oregon Tech's all-time career points leader. He finished the week averaging 20.7 pointes, 4.7 rebounds and 9.0 assists per week, with seven steals and a 42.2 field goal percentage.

Women’s Basketball – Player
Northwest Christian University’s Morgan McKinney was named the Red Lion Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, her fourth honor of the year.
 
The five-foot-eight sophomore guard from Lake Oswego, Ore., scored a season-high 33 on Friday, moving into second on NCU’s career list. McKinney had another well-rounded statistical effort in NCU's dramatic come-from-behind win over Warner Pacific University, hanging onto a tie for first-place with two games to play. Her five steals were a career-high. She finished the week averaging 23.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 4.0 steals per week. McKinney also shot 51.6-percent from the floor, including a 5-of-10 performance from beyond the arc.

Men’s Wrestling – Wrestler
University of Providence’s Hayden Schrull was named the Red Lion Men’s Wrestler of the Week.
 
The 12th-ranked 184-pound wrestler from Helena, Mont., grabbed a pin to secure the ninth-ranked Argos’ dual victory over No. 20-ranked MSU-Northern.
 
Men’s Indoor Track and Field – Field Athlete
College of Idaho’s Stephen Campbell was named the Red Lion Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.
 
The sophomore from Apple Valley, Utah, took second in the shot put at the BSU Team Challenge, breaking C of I's school record and hitting the NAIA "A" national cut. His mark of 15.97 puts him 10th on the NAIA list so far this season.

Men’s Indoor Track and Field – Track Athlete
Eastern Oregon University’s Alex Navarro was named the Red Lion Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, his second honor of the year.
 
The senior from Benton City, Wash., took second in the 3,000-meter run with a time of eight minutes, 36.48 seconds. Prior to conversions due to the track, Navarro’s time would be well below the NAIA auto-qualifying standard.

Women’s Indoor Track and Field – Field Athlete
College of Idaho’s Catylynn Duff was named the Red Lion Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for the third time this year and second week in a row.
 
The sophomore from Cuver, Ore., destroyed her own school record in the weight throw by nearly four feet, placing second overall at the BSU Team Challenge. She now has the No. 8 mark in the NAIA this season.
 
Honorable mention: Payton Jolley, EOU
 
Women’s Indoor Track and Field – Track Athlete
Eastern Oregon University’s Megan Bolton was named the Red Lion Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, her second honor of the year.
 
The sophomore from Reno, Nev., broke her fourth record in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 24.88 seconds to win the event. Teammate Jasmine Devers set the record earlier this year in 25.18, but Bolton was able best that and automatically qualified for nationals with the time. She ran the second-fastest prelim time out of 76 runners before defeating NCAA DI and DII competition in the finals. Bolton also ran on the 4x400 relay team that had an auto mark to nationals.
 
Baseball – Pitcher
UBC’s Garrett Hawkins was named the Red Lion Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
 
The 6-foot-5 senior starting pitcher for the Thunderbirds shut down the offence of the NAIA's 25th-ranked team, Benedictine-Mesa (Ariz.). Hawkins recorded 11 strikeouts and gave up just two hits in six innings in Friday's outing against the Redhawks. He didn't give up a run and walked just one player.
 
Baseball – Player
Lewis-Clark State’s AJ Davis was named the Red Lion Baseball Player of the Week.
 
The six-foot-two junior infielder from Clarkston, Wash., led the Warriors to a three-game sweep of NCAA DII Concordia University of Portland over the weekend. Davis had multiple hits in all three games, including a 4-for-5 performance and the game-winning RBI in game two. He currently leads LC State in batting average (.364) and hits (12) and posted .571 batting and .643 slugging averages on the week with four RBIs and a walk.
 
Honorable mention: Noah Or, UBC
 
Softball – Pitcher
UBC’s Shelby Kempel was named the Red Lion Softball Pitcher of the Week.
 
The five-foot-five sophomore pitcher from Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, had an excellent start to her sophomore season. She threw four shutout innings in the Thunderbirds' 2020 season opener at NCAA DII Western Washington to earn the win. Kempel then came on in relief in Game 2 of the doubleheader and did not give up a run in three innings. She had four strikeouts in seven total innings in the circle.
 
Honorable mention: Emma Jegtvig, NCU
 
Softball – Player
UBC’s Mia Valcke was named the Red Lion Softball Player of the Week.
 
The five-foot-nine sophomore centerfielder from Stratford, Ontario, Canada, led the Thunderbirds offensively in a season-opening doubleheader at NCAA Division II Western Washington. Valcke went 3-for-5 batting, including a double, and drew a walk. She boasted a .800 slugging average in the two games with one run scored.
