SOU Sports Information
ASHLAND – Southern Oregon seniors Daranda Hinkey and Delaney Sparling started their final regular-season weekend at home on ideal notes while helping the Raiders break the program 3-point record in Friday's 97-61 win against Multnomah at Lithia Motors Pavilion.
Sparling shot 6-of-10 downtown, scored a career-high 19 points and sparked the Raiders' 19-of-38 display from 3-point range, which supplanted the old makes record of 17 established three years ago. Hinkey dished out a career-high 10 assists, directing SOU to 47-percent overall shooting and a season-best point total for the second game in a row.
By going to 18-8 overall and 14-5 in Cascade Conference play, the Raiders locked into the No. 3 seed for the eight-team CCC Championships presented by U.S. Bank, in which they'll host a quarterfinal game at 7 p.m. Tuesday. They can still tie for second place in the standings with a win Saturday against Warner Pacific and an Eastern Oregon loss at Northwest Christian, but EOU would hold the head-to-head tiebreaker.
Winners of five of their last six, the Raiders will match up against the Knights at 5:30 p.m. Saturday on SOU Girls and Women in Sports Night. All girls and women will get free admission, and Hinkey and Sparling will be recognized following the game.
The seniors got plenty of help against the Lions. Syd'Nee Fryer totaled 19 points, six rebounds and five steals, Dominique Harding poured in 12 points and nine boards, and the pair combined to shoot 6-of-11 from 3. Kalei Iwami added 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting off the bench and hit three triples.
The Raiders got more stellar bench work from Bryanna Raff, who had eight points and nine boards, and Danasia Allison, who registered six points, four assists and four steals. Mallory Heard was perfect on a pair of 3-point attempts to score six points with five rebounds and two seals.
SOU jumped out to a 20-2 lead seven minutes into the game after back-to-back triples from Sparling and Fryer and never looked back.
The Lions fell to 5-21 and 2-17. Alaygza Portis logged an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double and Rachelle Tau scored 16.
