Red Lion Players of the Week Announced
The following CCC student-athletes have been recognized as Red Lion Players of the Week for their performances during the period Feb. 17-23, 2020.
Men’s Basketball – Player
Southern Oregon University’s Jordan Hunt was named the Red Lion Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
The six-foot-nine senior forward from Lower Hutt, New Zealand, scored a career-high 24 points on Friday against Multnomah University to lift the Raiders 123-75. Hunt scored 17 of his 20 total points in the final eight minutes of Saturday's win against Warner Pacific, helping the Raiders pull away. He averaged 22.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.0 steals per game, while shooting 73.1-percent from the field, including 66.7-percent from distance.

Women’s Basketball – Player
Corban University’s Shaelie Burgess was named the Red Lion Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
The six-foot-four sophomore center from Honolulu, Hawaii, notched a pair of double-doubles to lead the Warriors to a pair of home wins. Burgess scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in Corban’s 67-56 win over Eastern Oregon University, before contributing 13 points and 10 boards against College of Idaho. She averaged 15.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game on the week.

Men’s Wrestling – Wrestler
Corban University’s Cooper McCullough was named the Red Lion Men’s Wrestler of the Week.
The 157-pound junior from Moses Lake, Wash., stunned the loaded field by winning the CCC Championship after entering the tournament unranked. McCullough upset the No. 4 and No. 7-ranked wrestlers en route to the title, claiming the Warriors’ first-ever conference title in school history.

Men’s Indoor Track and Field – Track Athlete
Southern Oregon University’s AJ Sandvig was named the Red Lion Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
The sophomore from Corvallis, Ore., won the 800 at Portland's Bruin/Pilot Indoor Meet No. 3 by three-tenths of a second in his season debut, beating five NCAA Division I runners in the field with a time of one minute, 56.37 seconds (oversized).
Women’s Indoor Track and Field – Field Athlete
Southern Oregon University’s Sierra Schultz was named the Red Lion Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.
The freshman from Sandy, Ore., hit the NAIA 'B' standard in her collegiate debut, clearing 3.51 meters (11-6 1/4) to top a nine-person field in Portland's Bruin/Pilot Indoor Meet No. 3.
Women’s Indoor Track and Field – Track Athlete
Oregon Tech’s Danielle de Castro was named the Red Lion Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, her third honor of the year.
The senior from Seattle, finished first in the Women's One Mile as she ran away from a mostly NCAA Division I, field hitting an NAIA "A" qualifier and is now third on the NAIA list. She set a new school record by more than 10 seconds with a time of four minutes, 57.82 seconds.
Baseball – Pitcher
UBC’s Adam Maier was named the Red Lion Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
The six-foot freshman pitcher from North Vancouver, B.C., Canada, picked up his first career win, after throwing five innings of relief against No. 19 Lewis-Clark State College. Maier gave up just three hits and one run, while striking out five batters. He entered the game with UBC ahead 7-4 and the Thunderbirds ended up winning 9-5. He now owns a record of 1-0 with an earned run average of 1.13.
Baseball – Player
UBC’s Jackson Valcke was named the Red Lion Baseball Player of the Week.
The six-foot-one junior outfielder led UBC offensively as the Thunderbirds earned a weekend split at No. 19 Lewis-Clark State College. He hit .500 with eight hits in 16 at-bats. Valcke scored six runs and drove in another four. The redshirt junior leads UBC with a .366 batting average.

Softball – Pitcher
Southern Oregon University’s Gabby Sandoval was named the Red Lion Softball Pitcher of the Week, her second honor of the year.
The five-foot-three senior pitcher from Anaheim, Calif., established a new CCC career record for pitching wins, improving to 86-17 lifetime and winning all three conference counters against Northwest Christian University. She brought her season record to 9-0 and dropped her ERA to 1.57 after getting her 26th and 27th career shutouts.

Softball – Player
Warner Pacific University’s Devinne Amesquita was named the Red Lion Softball Player of the Week.
The five-foot-six junior third baseman from West Linn, Ore., hit three home runs in the double-header against Williamette University on Monday, along with five RBIs. Amesquita had three at-bats in both games and went 2-for-3 in each. In the four game series against Northwest University, she recorded three hits and had two stolen bases. After the week, Amesquita has a .771 slugging percentage and is batting a .343. In 14 games, she hass recorded 12 hits with five of them being home runs to lead the team.
