Historic Championship Set for Seventh Annual CCC Mascot Challenge Championship
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Two mascots will compete for the Seventh Annual CCC Mascot Challenge title for their first-ever championship and bragging rights. The Evergreen State College's Speedy Q and Southern Oregon University's Rocky square off to see who will win their first-ever championship on Feb. 11.
Polls featuring the head-to-head mascot semifinal matchup of the day were held on the conference's Twitter (
@cccsports) and Instagram (
@cascadeconference) story platforms, with the
combined total of votes received on both social media platforms determining who advanced to the championship round.
Both semifinal matchups were neck-and-neck, with Speedy taking the first one over Oregon Tech's Hootie. Speedy took 56-percent of the votes on Twitter and 55-percent on Instagram for a combined total of 649 votes on both platforms. Hootie grabbed 534 combined votes, but it wasn't enough to send the owl to the championship round for the fourth time.
The second semifinal matchup was perhaps the closest in challenge history. Defending champion Eastern Oregon University's Monty and SOU's Rocky were deadlocked on Instagram after the 24-hour voting period, each getting 50-percent of the votes. It came down to Twitter, where Rocky just edged out Monty, 51-percent to 49-percent. Rocky won the round with 1,125 combined votes to Monty's 1,116 combined votes – only nine votes separating the two.
Speedy and Rocky will face off on Feb. 11, once again on Twitter and Instagram, with the champion being crowned on Feb. 12. The complete schedule for the challenge can be seen below.
