Extra Time Gives Geoducks Win Over Knights

The Evergreen State College women's basketball team needed extra time Friday night to defeat Warner Pacific 85-78 in overtime.

The Knights came back in the third quarter to tie the game, but Evergreen kept the lead. But in the fourth quarter, WPU came back to tie the game and take the lead. After going back-and-forth in points, the game was tied at 74 and we headed into overtime. In the overtime, it was all Geoducks, who outscored the Knights 11-4 to take the win.

Evergreen was led by four players with double-digit points. Trinity Betoney led the way with 26 points. Anna Cook added 20, Angela Sikora had 14 and Jerri Maluyo had 10. Merrily Jones led on the rebounds with 12.

WPU was led by Darbi Pink, who had 25 points, Courtney Jackson added 20, Gabriella Bruno had 12 and Kali Kruger added 11. Celeste Pantoja led on the rebounds with eight. The Knights recorded 21 turnovers for the game, including having seven in the first quarter. Evergreen recorded 14 steals.

The Geoducks shot 46.2 percent from the floor to WPU's 42.3 percent. Evergreen was 81.8 percent from the free throw line.  The Geoducks ended a four-game winning streak against the Knights. The last win for Evergreen against WPU was on Dec. 1, 2017 in Portland.

The Geoducks will be back in action for Senior Night on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. against Multnomah.
