Walla Walla Women's Basketball Fights Hard in Loss Against Eastern Oregon

College Place, Wash. - The Wolves and the Mountaineers battled the first 3 minutes of the quarter to take control of the game. The Wolves came out playing strong defense, holding the Mountaineers to a two point game. Walla Walla utilized their strong defense by creating turnovers, gaining them 5 points. After a timeout called by Eastern Oregon, the Mountaineers got back into the game taking the lead and ending the quarter 14-19.
The Mountaineers came out hot in the second quarter, creating a 10 point lead within the first two minutes of the second quarter. The Wolves worked hard to keep closing the gap. At the end of the first half the Wolves were down 7 points (25-32).
Despite Walla Walla's efforts, their defense fell, losing the momentum they had at the beginning of the first half, allowing the Mountaineers to create a 15 point gap (29-44).
Carolina Montes helped in getting Walla Walla back into the game, scoring 5 points to help close the gap to 13 points. Alongside Carolina Montes,
Jaliyah Casem helps bring the score to within 8 points to end the third quarter (41-49).
Walla Walla fought hard the entire game, but the Mountaineers were unstoppable. Their shooting and hustle was unmatched—shooting 44.4% for field goals compared to Walla Walla who was 35.8% for their field goals—allowing them to secure the win (58-67). The Mountaineers were led by
Taylor Stricklin who contributed 21 of 67 points put up by Eastern Oregon. The Wolves were led by Carolina Montes who also had 21 points.
The Wolves will play February 14 at Oregon Tech at 1 pm, and Eastern Oregon will play at home February 14 against Northwest University at 5:30 pm.
