Northwest Christian University Highlights Postseason CCC Women’s Basketball Awards
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Cascade Collegiate Conference announced the 2019-20 Women’s Basketball All-Conference teams Tuesday morning, showcasing the conference’s top performers during the regular season.
CCC Regular-Season and Tournament Champion Northwest Christian University had a representative in all four top honors, with Morgan McKinney earning Player of the Year and head coach Chad Meadors being named the Coach of the Year. Shanay Dotson was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year with Corban University’s Shaelie Burgess, while Aspen Slifka grabbed Freshman of the Year after an outstanding collegiate debut. Multnomah University was awarded the Team Sportsmanship Award.
Meadors led the Beacons to win the regular-season championship with a 17-3 CCC record. Last year, NCU didn’t make the CCC Championship Tournament, presented by U.S. Bank, but this year was a different story. The Beacons picked up the top seed and breezed through the tournament – beating opponents by an average 21-point margin – to win their first-ever tournament title.
McKinney boasts the best field-goal percentage in the conference, shooting 53.8-percent from the field. The junior guard from Lake Oswego, Ore., averages 18.63 points per game – which ranks third in the CCC – and dishes out 3.93 assists per game – which sits fourth in the conference.
Dotson was a key component to the Beacons holding opponents to 66.03 points per game, which ranks fifth in the conference. The senior guard from Chehalis, Wash., averages 4.5 rebounds per game and has eight blocks and 47 steals on the year.
Burgess helped Corban boast the best field goal percentage defense in the conference, forcing teams to boast a 33.4 shooting percentage from the field. The sophomore center from Honolulu finished the year averaging 10.2 points and 7.9 rebounds per game – which ranks fifth in conference. She also had 65 blocks and 12 steals, with her 2.17 blocks per game ranking second in the CCC.
Slifka continues her stellar debut season, boasting a 13.6 points per game. The freshman guard from Banks, Ore., has 20 blocks, 42 steals and 41 assists so far this year.
