CORVALLIS, Ore. – Battling the COVID-19 pandemic definitely has challenges for those on the front lines, but former Eastern Oregon University women’s soccer player Amanda Durrant might have one of the hardest jobs of all.
The former Mountaineer forward is a Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse in Salt Lake City and has had to see women just give birth be separated from their newborn child.
“I have had to take care of many women in labor who have had the virus and have had to quarantine away from their brand new baby once it was born,” said Durrant.
While there have been challenging times, Durrant believes her time as a student-athlete has helped prepare her for life outside athletics.
“It taught me hard work, determination, and to not give up when things get tough,” said Durrant.
She also knows the importance of teamwork, helping the Mounties grab back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in program history as a junior.
“I think a positive [of the pandemic] is that everyone has a lot more awareness when it comes to their community,” said Durrant. “We wear masks not only to protect ourselves, but to protect those around us as well.”
