CORVALLIS, Ore. – Heading into the 2020-21 year, 24 student-athletes were named to the Cascade Collegiate Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), representing their schools.

Abby Kreiser is one of Oregon Tech’s SAAC reps, along with Lindsey Sampson. The senior women’s basketball player chose OIT because she felt it was the overall package for her.

“I chose Oregon Tech because [head coach] Scott Meredith is exactly the type of person I wanted to play for and the program has had a lot of success with him there, that's something I wanted to be a part of,” said Kreiser.

The communications major wants to attend law school after graduating and become a civil rights attorney.

“Following my undergrad degree at OIT, I want to attend law school and communication studies allows me to pursue that,” said Kreiser. “I've also always enjoyed writing and looking at why and how people interact the way they do.”

Kreiser knows the commitment being a student-athlete is and the demands that can have, including “good time-management skills, good communication skills, always being a good representative of your school and keeping grades up to stay eligible.”

Some of Kreiser’s favorite memories at OIT are presenting research at the NWCA and going to the NAIA National Tournament with the Owls. She also lists Coach Meredith, Coach Bees, Professor Veronica Koehn and Professor Kevin Brown as influential people in her life.

When the Boise, Idaho, native isn’t out on the court or studying, she enjoys watching movies, reading, hanging out with friends and hanging out with her dog.

With the pandemic, Kreiser has had to adjust to not seeing her friends as much and finding out ways besides the gym to workout and play basketball. It’s also created an “unknown” for her senior year, but like the athlete she is, Kreiser will adapt.

As a SAAC rep, Kreiser hopes to “help create a better, more inclusive league where everyone competing feels like they are proud to be a part of this league.”
