CORVALLIS, Ore. – Heading into the 2020-21 year, 24 student-athletes were named to the Cascade Collegiate Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), representing their schools.
Alyssa Goff is one of two representatives from the College of Idaho, along with Collin Glass. The junior is a dual-sport athlete for the Coyotes, on the soccer and softball teams.
“The College of Idaho holds so many academic opportunities and the campus atmosphere really drew me in,” said Goff. “I am able to pursue all my different interests in the classroom while competing in great athletic programs.”
Last year, Goff helped the Coyotes advance to the Cascade Collegiate Conference Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament, presented by U.S. Bank. She also helped C of I in the 2019 CCC Softball Championship Tournament and advance to the NAIA National Tournament.
“My best experiences at college are all the times I am surrounded by my teammates and spending time with my peers,” said Goff. “I remember sitting in a room with the softball team waiting to hear if we had earned a bid to nationals my freshman year. The room erupted as soon as our team was announced in the bracket; it was a once in a lifetime experience.”
Part of being a student-athlete means Goff has to use her time wisely.
“As a student-athlete, I am challenged to manage my time very well,” said Goff. “Between the demands of my academics and athletics, it is difficult to meet all the obligations and complete all of my homework.”
The political economy and philosophy double major, who also has minors in pre-law, legal psychology and natural science, looks to attend law school after graduating from the College of Idaho.
Goff has met some very influential people at C of I, even after just two years at the school.
“My coaches, professors, and friends that I've met at College of Idaho have been the highlight of my time of here,” said Goff. “I've met so many amazing people, and I've only been here for two years.”
When not playing or studying, Goff enjoys sleeping.
“The first thing I do if I have the time is nap,” said Goff. “Then, I go adventuring around the valley with my friends and teammates or find a new show on Netflix to pass the time.”
She’s had a lot more time on her hands to get extra sleep or adventures in due to the pandemic, which has also taught Goff even more about time management.
“COVID-19 has completely changed my day-to-day life,” said Goff. “From canceled athletics to online classes, I've had more free time than ever. I've had to relearn how to organize and manage my time.”
Goff is in her first year as a SAAC rep, but hopes to make an impact right away.
“As a member of CCC-SAAC, I hope to represent the College of Idaho well and help to provide other athletes with the best collegiate experience,” said Goff.
