REDDING, Calif. – Competing in the first competition in program history, the (RV) Corban University women's wrestling team made a strong first impression, defeating (RV) Simpson University by a final tally of 24-12 en route to a historic triumph.

"I'm really proud of how everyone competed, especially since we've had no time on the mat," said head coach Stryder Davis. "I'm really excited to develop this young, talented group."

Due to local guidelines related to COVID-19—the Warriors were unable to prepare for the event by practicing indoors beforehand, making the victory even more impressive. With safety a top priority for the squad, Corban participated in extensive testing measures prior to Saturday's competition.

In addition to the dual, the two squads also competed in a number of exhibition matches after the official contest's conclusion.

At this time, no official results have been provided for the event.

In the 101-pound weight class, Brooke Burrows won by fall and by forfeit in her two competitions. Kendall Martin (130/135) also turned in an impressive debut performance, notching a pair of pins on the afternoon. Ivy Kraght (144) continued the trend, pinning her opponent in both of her matches.

The long-awaited program debut proved to be well worth the wait, and now Corban (1-0) will continue to seek out ways to safely compete in the days ahead, while also adhering to all local guidelines related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
